John A. Monnier

John is a senior financial executive with over 40 years experience in University and Medical School organizations. Most recently John has been an independent consultant after serving as the Founding CFO of The Commonwealth Medical College (TCMC), a free standing start up medical college.

Prior to his service with TCMC, John served as the finance officer of Jefferson Medical College for 18 years during a significant growth period which included multiple restructurings of budget models for the college and physician practice plan. John has additioonal experience as the Assistant Vice President and Controller and then the CIO of The University of Arizona during the time when the University separated the hospital from the organization and developed early high speed campus communications and remote computer access.

Before moving to Arizona, John served as Controller (effectively CFO) of The University of Chicago. At Chicago John negotiated indirect cost rates, implemented new payroll and accounting systems, began a new payout structure for endowment funds and renegotiated the employee benefit and institutional insurance programs.

Throughout his career John has restructured budget processes, overseen major construction projects, and managed the financial implications of the expansion and contraction of organizations.

His initial position in higher education was as controller for a small private college. He also spent time as a systems analyst in a large manufacturing corporation. John served as an intelligence officer in the US Army. He also spent two years as a financial advisor. John has an MBA from The University of Chicago and is a CPA.
